Holy Family are in our fourth year of teaching maths with the DMIC framework.

DMIC involves our students using real life problems in small groups to build a shared understanding about a solution.

DMIC maths involves our mathematical super powers. These are:

  • Friendly arguing

  • Connecting ideas

  • Explaining thinking

  • Justifying

  • Variety of ways to solve problems

  • Drawing to show understanding

  • Listening to others

  • Questioning to understand

Our students still need to know the basic knowledge concepts of maths, but the strategies of how to solve problems are worked out in small groups and largely without teacher instruction.

Feel free to ask your child’s teacher any questions you have or you can also go to www.cerme.nz/dmic
